Coordinated in France by ADEME, this week is a strong moment of mobilization to highlight good practices in the direction of waste reduction.
Bulk is one of the solutions to prevent the creation of waste at the source
As the products are presented without packaging, it is possible to use them with a reusable container (glass jar or fabric bag for example). The choice of the right quantity allows at the same time to better control its consumption and to waste less the products purchased. In short, when you want to embark on a process of reducing your waste, you cannot miss this mode of consumption!
Moreover, the results of the study conducted in partnership with Nielsen clearly show that the French are ready to go bulk, even if the brakes remain. 40% of French people consume in bulk in 2019, including 10% at least once a month. These figures are increasing year after year, proof that the craze is growing and that more and more households are adopting this way of consuming.
For their part, bulk stores are constantly opening, responding to this growing demand, despite the health crisis: 154 stores were opened in 2020! These specialized shops are present throughout the territory and offer a wide range of bulk products, mainly local and often organic, as shown in the recent study carried out by Réseau Vrac on this subject. By going shopping in this type of store, you can both reduce your waste and support the economy of the area.
Faced with this growth in the sector, Réseau Vrac released in September 2020 its first book dedicated to bulk consumption: Vrac Mode d'Emploi. The goal? Introducing bulk consumption step by step: Where to buy in bulk? What to buy? How to use Which containers to choose? How to store the products at home? A book suitable for all levels of knowledge on the subject, which will convince neophytes.
In view of these elements (urgency to reduce to reduce the quantity of waste produced, market growth, awareness actions carried by the association) Réseau Vrac wishes to seize the opportunity of the SERD, to educate as many people as possible about the benefits of bulk consumption.
